In the meantime please read this important information before you remove tiles from the packing boxes and before hiring a tiler or attempting to lay them yourself:
'MOSAICO HIDRAULICO' MUST BE INSTALLED BY A SPECIALIST TILER WITH EXPERIENCE OF LAYING THIS TYPE OF CEMENT TILE
SHOULD NEVER BE SLURRY GROUTED AS THE GROUT CAN STAIN TILES IRREVERSIBLY.
The following is a copy of Artevida's technical page from their own website:
FLEXIBLE MORTAR PLACEMENT OF MOSAICOS
*Remove tiles from boxes in pairs, face on face (as packed) to avoid unnecessary scratching and always batch/mix tiles from 2-3 different boxes.
*Ensure the surface to be tiled is perfect, dry and clean.
*Good practice prior to placement : removing any sand or latence from the rear of the encaustic by brush and edging the tiles with a 150 grade sandpaper.
*to enhance the tile´s patine, prior to sealing the tile should be washed well using a scotch brite sponge in a circular motion with sufficient water.
*Arrange the tiles by hand pressure only allowing a 1-3mm joint using a modern good quality flexible tile adhesive/glue.
*Always experiment all products & jointing material on trial sample prior to application.
*When fully dry, pre-sealing of tiles prior to grouting is necessary using a waterproof product for marble/terrazo floor (see links).
*We recommend a traditional mortar paste for joints using only fine white sand, cement (2:1) or any other premade joint filler that should be first tested on a trial sample.
*Fill the mortar well into the joints by trowel or sponge; the tiles should then be cleaned with a wet sponge as you proceed. Work always in small areas 1-2m².
*When fully clean & dry, protective coating against staining is essential, manually applied 2-3 times using a sponge or brush (see links).
*Regular cleaning using water & natural soap will protect & enhance the beauty of your tile with time – a yearly waxing is advised to sustain the protective coatings.
